Staying Safe in the Hobby

Personal Security Tips from Front Row Card Show

As the hobby becomes more mainstream, new collectors are joining us everyday, which is wonderful.

Unfortunately, as the hobby has grown, thefts and crimes have also become more frequent. Thieves look for vulnerable vendors and collectors, as well as unwatched valuables.

At Front Row Card Show, we have always taken security very seriously. We hire security guards and uniformed police officers to be onsite at every show, including the hours before and after the show. We are strict about controlling access before, during and after every show and we insist that vendors always wear their vendor badges, especially when behind their tables.

Here are some extra tips to keep yourself and your items safe:

Vendor load in/load out

  • Nearly all of our venues have a secure freight load in area. These are gated areas, which are difficult for thieves to access.
  • If you are parking on the street or in a parking lot, stay together when travelling from your cars to the venue.

Parking

  • Do not leave anything in your vehicles.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Park in well lit parking lots.

Vendor Badges

A vendor badge gives the owner full access during the show and also before and after. During the show and while you are in the show room, please wear your vendor badge, this helps us with making sure those who should not be in the room are asked to leave.

  • Wear your vendor badges at the show.
  • Do not share vendor badges.
  • Do not allow attendees to be behind your table.

At your vendor table

  • Watch out for distractions.
  • Record or live stream your table to deter theft by making your property look actively monitored.

Doorways at the show

  • Avoid using side doors to enter or exit the show.
  • Avoid propping open any doors.

When you leave the show

  • REMOVE your vendor badge.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Stay together, avoid being alone.
  • Be aware when walking through a parking garage or hotel lobby.

In Hotels

  • Be aware of who is in the elevator with you. If unsure, return to the lobby.
  • Be aware of who is behind you as you walk to your room. If unsure, walk the wrong direction on purpose.
  • Use the traditional door chain and lock. Add a door wedge for an additional level of security once you are in your room.

Social Media

  • Avoid any posts that can show where you are staying or your room number.
  • Avoid sharing information about your car registration or home address.

Cases

  • Keep an eye on your cases.
  • Hide an AirTag or GPS tracker in your case.
  • Personalize your case. Items that are personalized or easy to spot are less likely to be stolen.
  • Kneel or sit on your case if in public.

Money/Cash

  • Please wear your cash on your body via a crossbody or fanny pack.
  • Do NOT leave your cash unattended.

These tips are simple, but effective.

Let’s help each other and keep the hobby safe for all.
